I have a friend who believes that he has never once manipulated someone. And he believes that I was being disrespectful by insinuating (believing) such a thing!
My grandmother believes that if you put your purse on the floor (even for a second), you are destined to be poor for the rest of your life...while (according to his mother) the little boy ahead of me in the grocery store believes money grows on trees!
Tony Montana believed the world needed people like him...and that he always told the truth, even when he lied...while former President Bill Clinton believed that although he had experimented with marijuana, he didn't inhale, so it didn't count...
Wal-Mart believes that Cheaper = Better...while American Express believes that some moments are truly priceless
I could go on and on but the point is we all have different beliefs and those beliefs are what form the way we judge everyday interactions. Everyday I hear people accusing others of having "bad judgment". Whether it's that they don't agree with the stance of management, our return policy, or our overall brand; they feel like somebody is making a bad judgment call.
Maybe it isn't, maybe its just that we just believe different things.
When you believe something, you know it to be true. When you judging something, you form an opinion after some consideration. It's always taboo to question someone's beliefs because it's personal. People are automatically defensive and it rarely leads to a productive outcome. After all, who are you to question what I believe to be true?
So the next time you think you are simply commenting on something, make sure you're not questioning someone's beliefs. It could change everything.

have a nice day
